Indian Government’s Economic Survey 2016 is out and the following are some key areas which highlight the performance of AP in different areas.

GDP – According to the Survey, for 2015 , Andhra Pradesh has recorded a Gross Value Added output of Rs.461,257 crores whereas Telangana recorded a GVA of Rs.380,066 crores.

Tourism – AP is one of the top five states in India in terms of domestic tourist visits. With 93.3 million tourist visits, AP is behind Maharashtra (94.1 million), Karnataka (118.3), UP (182.8 million), Tamil Nadu (327.6 million).

Agriculture – AP is one of the top 3 largest producing states in 2014-15 in the following crops: Rice, Maize, Total course cereals, Sunflower and Cotton.

Foreign Direct Investment – Andhra Pradesh together with Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat attracted more than 70% of the total FDI inflows into the country. From April’14 to November’15 Andhra Pradesh attracted 2. 07 billion dollars investments .

Inflation – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu and Kashmir experienced higher inflation during April-December 2015 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The reason for rising inflation in these States has been higher food inflation, the report said.

Drip Irrigation – Andhra Pradesh revealed the benefits of drip irrigation.There have been substantial reductions in irrigation costs and savings on electricity and fertilisers. This is because water is efficiently supplied and hence, pumps are used for a limited time.

Airports – AP is mentioned as a beneficiary in new airports with the Civil Aviation Ministry giving “site clearance” for setting up three greenfield airports in the state – namely, Bhogapuram, Dagadarthi and Oravakallu.
